Women United Provides "Giving from the Heart" Baskets filled with donated goods

February 8, 2017: More than 30 senior women clients of Age Well from Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle Counties who live alone on fixed incomes will receive a special treat for Valentine’s Day. The Women United Council of United Way of Northwest Vermont made this happen through a volunteer effort, Giving from the Heart. The Women United Volunteer Committee, spearheaded by Melinda Moulton, decided to focus on a shared project of donating baskets filled with things that women living alone on fixed income would need and items they could use to lighten their lives and brighten their days. The baskets were filled to the brim with new cozy throw blankets, towels, pillow cases, soaps, hand creams and much more donated by our members with joy in helping other women. Each basket was topped off with a special treat donated by Lake Champlain Chocolates.

Women United is an affinity group of United Way that has come together as part of a national movement to harness the power of women to engage, educate and empower others to become leaders and actively participate in the betterment of each community. Our signature issue of women’s financial stability was chosen to reflect the reality of the lives of women in our community and we come together to make a difference. The bottom-line is that we believe when caring committed women get together to create change anything is possible. While the surprise delivery to Age Well clients is the first volunteer activity, Women United hosts events, encourages philanthropy and provides forums for women in the community to learn together, collaborate and unite their voices toward the goal.
